Preparing Your Resume for the Job Fair

There is a difference between preparing a resume for online applications and for handing out at Job Fairs. Online applications are processed by a computer that strips out all the formatting, rendering all the resumes to look plain. These online applications force human resource people to evaluate your job application solely on your prior job experience or school grades. The job fair presents you with an opportunity to present yourself and a good looking resume to the human resource people. So looks are the upmost of importance for your resume to hand out at the job fair.

Your resume should always show your relevant job experience and highlight this for all prospective employers to see. You want to emphasize relevant job experience because any employer is looking to hire experienced job applicants. There are many good looking resume formats but remember to highlight any relevant job experience.

If you don’t have the job experience, then you should show off your college degrees and GPA. Place the Education section first on your resume instead of job experiences. Remember to show off your best skills and experiences, and make these easy for the employers to find. Likewise show off any work studies or volunteer work if it’s relevant to the job you’re seeking.

There’s no best format for everybody, you must choose the best format for yourself. Remember to place your best foot forward, show off your best skills and experiences on your resume and you’re sure to land a great job when you’re at the job fair.
